Nineteen of the Russian's 21 championships have been won on hardcourt

A resurgent Daniil Medvedev secured his maiden championship for nearly 30 months with a win over Corentin Moutet in the competition final.

The Russian, a former number one, has experienced a torrid year, winning just one win at the Grand Slams and undergoing a difficult moment at the US Open.

Medvedev's inconsistency on the ATP Tour - and difficulties with his serving in particular - resulted in him dropping out of the elite rankings and finally splitting with long-term trainer Cervara.

Presently training with Johansson and his other coach, Medvedev has steadily progressed in the recent weeks - culminating in a hard-fought three-set victory over challenger Moutet.

It is his initial trophy following the Rome competition and initial on a hard surface from spring of that year.

The win also signifies Medvedev has won 21 victories at twenty-one distinct tournaments.

"For the first time I am participating in a competition with my children at once, so to secure a title is really nice," said tennis professional Daniil Medvedev.

"This championship is in honour of my second daughter my daughter, because the first title I got when my older daughter my daughter was born was for her."

Medvedev, the 2021 US Open champion, had failed in his past six finals, featuring in the German tournament earlier this year.

Medvedev's counter-punching approach and frequent emotional displays on the playing surface had caused commentators to question if his capacity to compete at the elite level was concluded.

However the 29-year-old has implemented adjustments in the past month, attempting to come to the net and play assertively, backed up by an improved service.

Medvedev came back from a break down in the first set against the tricky Frenchman, taking four of the last five points to take the lead.

The pair traded break points in the second set before the challenger, attempting for his maiden professional victory, gained dominance to create a final set.

Moutet saved four initial chances in a tight deciding set before the Russian secured a break to fifteen to secure the win.

Fittingly, he clinched victory with a point at the net area, with Moutet failing to control a shot after a lengthy match.
